Chairman rejects claims of a £12million offer for Croatian

Monaco chairman Jerome de Bontin has denied claims that the club made an offer for Portsmouth midfielder Niko Kranjcar. Pompey manager Harry Redknapp recently stated that the South Coast side had turned down a bid of £12million from Monaco for Kranjcar. However, De Bontin has refuted the reports, insisting that the Ligue 1 club did not bid for the Croatian. He told L'Equipe: "He is one of the best players in the world, but we didn't make a €15million offer as Portsmouth said." Kranjcar, 23, has been linked with a move away from Fratton Park this summer, with Arsenal and Roma said to be considering a move for his services. However, Redknapp is adamant that he has no intention of selling the creative midfielder as he prepares to lead Pompey into Europe after their FA Cup success last term.
