Portsmouth have confirmed that Sol Campbell is likely to leave the club and that Luisao is their number one target to replace him.

Portsmouth line-up Campbell's replacement

Portsmouth have confirmed that Sol Campbell is likely to leave the club this summer and that Brazilian ace Luisao is their number one target to replace him. Campbell is out-of-contract in the summer and has never hidden his desire to play abroad, with Spanish side Villarreal long-term admirers. A move to another English club can also not be discounted, with Newcastle known fans of the veteran England defender. Pompey are seemingly already looking beyond Campbell, with Benfica stopper Luisao having emerged as their top target. Luisao would not come cheap with a price tag of over £10million but the FA Cup finalists are ready to make a move in the summer.

Luisao liking

"The assessment of Luisao is very good," Portsmouth's director of communications Gary Double is quoted by the Daily Express. "Campbell will leave and Luisao is Redknapp's preference for the defence. "We have already spoken to Benfica and they have set the fee at £12million as a starting point for negotiations." Meanwhile, Harry Redknapp is being linked with another raid on his former club Southampton. It is claimed on the South Coast that young winger Nathan Dyer is in his sights and he will follow up initial interest with a firm offer for the 20-year-old, who is out-of-contract in the summer. Should Dyer move on Southampton would be due compensation for the England youth star.
