Harry admits Utaka interest

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp is hoping to complete a double swoop on Rennes.

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp is hoping to complete a double swoop on Rennes.

Having already arranged a permanent deal for Arnold Mvuemba, Redknapp is also trying to fix up a move for John Utaka.

The Nigerian forward has been watched on several occasions by Redknapp, who feels Utaka would be a good addition to his Fratton Park squad.

"I went and watched him a few times last year and I was always impressed with him," Redknapp told Sky Sports News.

"He can play wide right, he gives you pace, strength, he can play through the middle and he's lightning quick.

"I liked him a lot."

Redknapp also confirmed that Mvuemba has agreed a three-year contract with Pompey following his loan spell last season.

The midfielder made seven appearances in the Premier League and Redknapp feels Portsmouth have landed a bargain.

He added: "The fee was well below £1million and I think we've got good value.

"If you went after a young player in this country - an Under 21 international - you certainly wouldn't get him for that kind of figure.

"I think he's a kid with a big future."
