Harry Redknapp has no doubt he needs to improve the quality of Portsmouth's squad.
Harry Redknapp believes there is no question that he needs to improve the quality of his squad in the summer.
And the Portsmouth boss hopes to begin that process by signing on-loan midfielder Arnold Mvuemba on a permanent basis.
Pompey owner Sacha Gaydamak is expected to hand Redknapp a large transfer budget as they look to establish themselves as a top six side in the Premiership, and Redknapp claims if they are to improve it is 'a case of quality not quantity'.
And Mvuemba, who joined on loan from French side Rennes in January, has shown enough quality in his time at the club to convince Redknapp to want to make his move permanent.
"Arnold has a big role to play in the future of this club and I would like to keep him," he told The News.
"If the price is right, I'm sure we'll get him. He's a very talented player - the sort this club needs.
"It's not the size of the squad I'm looking to increase here. We actually need to improve the quality of the players, without a doubt.
"The likes of David James and Sol Campbell bring a lot of quality. To keep pushing on, we need to get in some more to add to the players we've already got.
"It's a case of having to strengthen the squad - it's a case of quality not quantity.
"I want to pick a couple of good players to add to the team, not just to increase numbers."
Portsmouth were beaten 4-2 at Watford on Easter Monday and Redknapp says his match-day squad comprised every last one of his available players.
"Against Watford, we had six out. We cannot afford to have that many missing.
"The squad that day was every player we had at the club. There was no-one else at all. We get a few knocks and we are in trouble. We need to have quality there.
"We want to push on by bringing in better players and that's what we are going to do in the summer."
