Harry a fan of Earnshaw

Harry Redknapp admits Robert Earnshaw's price could dissuade him from making a bid.

Harry Redknapp admits Robert Earnshaw's price could dissuade him from making a bid for the Norwich City striker.

Portsmouth are looking to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window and have been linked with a host of players.

Earnshaw has been put forward as a target for Pompey, along with fellow Championship hot shot David Nugent of Preston.

Wales international Earnshaw only joined Norwich from West Bromwich Albion in the last January transfer window and is thought to be valued at £5million.

Redknapp is a fan of the lively front man, but concedes he is wary about splashing a lot of money on one player.

"I like Earnshaw, he has done well and has always scored goals," said Redknapp.

"His record is pretty good and he is a natural goalscorer.

"Norwich will probably want good money for him though. You look at Nugent, who I like - £5million is a lot of money.

"Where can you find strikers? It is hard and it will be tough to get someone here to make us a better team.

"It is always a gamble, you can get someone for a million and they do not perform, or you can get Kanu who costs nothing and scored nine goals.

"Look at the players Chelsea have brought in for millions and millions. Some have been great, but some have not quite come off."
