Clubs haggling over Diawara fee

Portsmouth could yet make another signing before the transfer deadline.

Portsmouth could yet make another signing before the transfer deadline with Souleymane Diawara attracting Harry Redknapp's attention.

The Sochaux stopper initially rebuffed the idea of heading to the South Coast but Pompey's spectacular spending spree has caused him to have second thoughts.

Sochaux chairman Jean-Claude Plessis is haggling over a price for a transfer, even a loan deal, as the clock ticks towards midnight.

"I know they have made an offer, on loan, and my business partner Roger Boli is talking to both clubs," agent Willie McKay told skysports.com.

Sochaux want guarantees that any temporary move is with a view to a lucrative ‚é¼8 million permanent switch in the summer.

"An ‚é¼8 million (£5.46 million) option?" questioned Plessis. "And how would Portsmouth pay the loan?

"If they pay ‚é¼1 million (£682,000), I will sign it.

"However, the only paying offer I have received is a ‚é¼2 million (£1.36 million) loan."

If Pompey agree to pay the ‚é¼1 million (£682,000) fee for a loan deal then the Senegal defender could find himself signing on at Fratton Park.
