Sky Bet Championship: Brentford boss hails side after home success against Reading

Brentford boss Mark Warburton toasted some Spanish flair and Irish grit after watching his side sink Reading 3-1.

Midfield livewire Jota opened the scoring for the Bees and showed glimpses of the talent which persuaded Warburton to pay Celta Vigo £1million for him in the summer.

And former Republic of Ireland enforcer Douglas grabbed the crucial third, already equalling last season's goal tally of three, just as Reading were threatening to snatch a point.

"Jota has come over here and along with the other overseas boys we've brought in, they are technically gifted but they are learning about the intensity of our game," said Warburton.

"They're great talents but they need time to adjust, and he is getting stronger. There's no question about his technical ability.

Goals from Jota, Alex Pritchard and Jonathan Douglas fired Brentford to a 3-1 victory over Reading in the Sky Bet Championship.

"Dougie came back from the summer lighter and fitter. He's lean and hungry and it's not a fluke.

"His experience in the middle is much needed and he knows when to get forward. He was committed and got his just rewards.

"Reading are a very good team with a lot of quality. To a man defensively, we were immense. It's a very pleasing result.

"We could have taken better care of the ball - but if we're looking for criticism after beating Reading 3-1 then we're very happy!"

Alan Judge had already rattled a post for Brentford when Jota slotted in the 11th-minute opener after Reading failed to clear Alan McCormack's cross.

Tottenham loanee Alex Pritchard rattled in the second after 32 minutes but a double change from Royals boss Nigel Adkins paid off four minutes after the break when Simon Cox diverted in fellow sub Jamie Mackie's cross.

However, Brentford made sure of the points when Douglas nodded in Pritchard's corner 10 minutes from time - although Adkins felt the Bees midfielder had fouled Jordan Obita.

"We had the momentum with us but unfortunately the third goal gave Brentford the winning edge," he said.

"Was it a foul? The ref hasn't given it but nine-and-three-quarter times out of 10 the ref would have given it.

"But every game you can question soemthing. We have to think about our own performance. The two goals we conceded in the first half were of our own doing.

"We had opportunities in the second half, we were on the front foot, we had five strikers on the pitch. But it's about putting them in and one end and keeping it out at the other."
