Hammond hopeful full-back will return to the club

Nicky Hammond insists Reading are happy to be patient in their bid to sign Stoke City defender Andy Griffin on a permanent basis. Griffin enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Reading during the second half of last season and the Championship club want to bring the 31-year-old back to the Madejski Stadium. Reports claim the full-back is reluctant to uproot his family, but the Royals' director of football Hammond remains optimistic of concluding a deal. "I've had discussions with Stoke and, as it stands, there needs to be talks that take place between them and Griff," Hammond told the Reading Post. "He still has a lot to think about and right now we just have to wait and see. It's one of those deals that just take time to progress. "Anything we have to do has to be right for all three parties involved. But we're hopeful of finding a solution. He is their player and it's decided on their time. "At some point we will have to make a decision if we're going to stay with it - and it's not like we don't have people in the building who can't play right-back. We're happy to wait on this one for now."
