Defender to return this month

Reading's Ibrahima Sonko is targeting a return to action in the Carling Cup third-round clash at home to Liverpool later this month. The defender has been sidelined since January with a cruciate knee ligament injury he sustained in the 3-1 home win over Sheffield United, but has now come through his first full training session and hopes to feature when the Reds visit the Madejski Stadium on 25th September.

Fine

He said: "I have no problem with the knee now. I have been turning and everything is fine. I just need games. "I would like to play in the Liverpool game, but it's up to the gaffer (Steve Coppell) if he thinks I will be ready or not," he told the Reading Evening Post. Meanwhile, Brynjar Gunnarsson has pulled out of Iceland's Euro 2008 qualifiers with Spain and Northern Ireland after suffering a calf strain, while the Republic of Ireland's Shane Long is undergoing treatment on a broken thumb.
