McGovern signs for Robins

Swindon manager Paul Sturrock has beaten the transfer deadline to sign Jon-Paul McGovern from MK Dons for an undisclosed fee. Midfielder McGovern was part of the Sheffield Wednesday side - managed by Sturrock - which won promotion from League One in 2005. He began his career at Celtic but moved to Livingston in July 2003, before moving to Hillsborough a year later, and then to the Dons in the 2006. McGovern has penned a three-year deal at the County Ground and is expected to make his debut in Tuesday's Johnstone's Paint Trophy clash with Brentford.

Swindon have also landed young Reading striker Simon Cox, although he is not eligible to make his debut against Crewe.

The 20-year-old will remain with The Robins on loan until 1st January 2008.
