Reading midfielder James Harper has shaken hands on his new deal at Reading.

Reading midfielder James Harper has shaken hands on his new deal at Reading.

The 25-year-old, who has been one of the driving forces behind The Royals' push to The Premiership, is out of contract in the summer.

A number of Premiership clubs and Dutch giants Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven, were said to be showing an interest - but the former Arsenal trainee is to stay with Reading.

"I had a very good conversation with James after training on Thursday, and we shook hands on the deal we have been discussing in recent weeks," said director of football Nick Hammond.

"James won't sign the new contract until after the weekend because he is focusing on the game against Watford.

"James has done a lot of thinking about the various options that are open to him.

"He loves it here, he thinks the football club has a bright future and wants to be a part of that. We are very pleased with his decision.

"It's a great boost for the club going into the Watford game and I am sure our supporters will give him a particularly good reception."
