Skipper still going strong

Bolton star Gary Speed says playing over coaching remains his priority. The experienced midfielder is combining playing with a coaching role in Sammy Lee's team. Speed says he is still enjoying playing and has no plans to hang up his boots to concentrate on coaching.

Playing

"I am still playing and I still train every day so I can't coach when I'm training," Speed told the Manchester Evening News. "Hopefully, that will be the case all season so I don't do much practical coaching on the training pitch. "However, in the conversations we have, before and after games, I'm involved. "It's a massive learning curve for me and I'm really enjoying it." Speed feels there is no resentment from his team-mates now he is part of the coaching staff.
No conflict
"If there is conflict I don't see it," added Speed. "Doing both roles does extend the day but it's not a chore and I am learning a hell of a lot from it. "But I want to play for as long as I can. Maybe when I finish we can look into things but playing is a priority. "I feel really fit, that's the most important thing."
