Roberto Martinez has stressed no decision has been made yet on whether Ross Barkley will take part in the Under-21 European Championships in June.

It has been reported the Everton boss would prefer the midfielder to rest this summer rather than play for Gareth Southgate's side in Czech Republic.

The Spaniard has previously said he did not think Barkley’s involvement could be 'positive for him or the rest of the squad' given he already featured for England's senior side at the 2014 World Cup.

But ahead of Thursday’s Europa League game with Dinamo Kiev, Martinez is not ruling anything out and highlighted Everton’s close relationship with the Football Association and Southgate.

He said: "Our relationship with the FA is very good. At the end of the matter it is going to be what's best for the player and for the Under-21s in general.

"We are facing the most important period of the season for the team and for the player, so you can imagine that there is no decision that can be taken now.

"But our relationship with the FA and Gareth Southgate in this case is very close, and we are going to make the right decision based on what is going to happen between now and the end of the season and the needs that there are from the England team."

Martinez has also warned his side must put any thoughts about their stuttering Premier League form to one side when they face the Ukraine outfit at Goodison Park.

“We don’t want to look into the league now, there’s no time," he added. “Now we are looking to Dynamo Kiev and to get into the final eight of this competition.

“There’s been a lot of football, effort and good work in this competition. Being at home is an advantage you have to use, we need to remember Dinamo are unbeaten in their league.”
