Nigerian international praises Johnson work-rate

Everton striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni believes he and Andy Johnson can form one of the "best partnerships in the Premier League". Yakubu arrived from Middlesbrough for £11.25million and went straight into the team to face Bolton Wanderers. Everton won the game 2-1 and the Nigerian international marked his debut with a goal, with Johnson providing a marvellous assist. Johnson has yet to open his Premier League scoring account this season but Yakubu is confident goals will come soon for the England forward.

Unlucky

"I thought AJ was unlucky not to score as he had two good chances," Yakubu told The Sun. "He is the same in training and he always works hard. I know his quality and know what he can do. "We can have a great partnership and you saw the way we played here. We hope we can both score and help the team finish in Europe. "We've only been together for four days but we still worked well together. "We could be one of the best partnerships in the Premier League - I really think so."
First touch
Yakubu also spoke of his delight at hitting the back of the net on his debut. "It was my first touch and that was a great start," he added. "It's a great feeling to score a goal in my first game and it has given me more confidence."
