Ince's future with the Championship club has been shrouded in doubt since he was pipped to the manager's post by McCarthy last week.
The former England international had applied for the job after spending the past four seasons in the heart of Wolves' midfield.
He had also been offered a new playing contract, but appears to have rejected the chance to extend his time in the Black Country.
The 38-year-old has not turned up for training since McCarthy's appointment, with the new boss admitting the ex-Manchester United and Liverpool ace will not be returning.
"I haven't spoken to Paul, but I can tell you now that he won't be coming back to the football club," said McCarthy.
"I've been here for three days and I've not seen him. I think he's made his mind up.
"I had made my decision, but I did want to talk to him first.
"But he won't be coming back and we move on."
Meanwhile, McCarthy is close to signing Jay Bothroyd on a free transfer, with the striker undergoing a medical at the club.
Bothroyd has been training with Crystal Palace in pre-season, but is now finalising a move to Molineux after being released by Charlton Athletic.
Everton midfielder Lee Carsley, who played under McCarthy with the Republic of Ireland side, has also been linked with a switch to Wolves.
