Amoruso in Everton link

EVERTON are believed to have made an ambitious enquiry for Perugia striker Nicola Amoruso.

The 27-year-old is the subject of a confusing transfer wrangle with Perugia already agreeing a deal with Juventus to bring him to Umbria next term.

However, with Roberto Baronio on the brink of sealing a temporary switch to Perugia, Lazio have been offered the option of taking a part-ownership of Amoruso in exchange. Juve are also reckoned to be retaining some say in the striker's future.

As the biancoceleste have no real need for the former Napoli man, he could then be farmed out to England for a season, with Everton the club credited with an interest in the player.

The experienced attacker was tentatively linked with The Toffees and Birmingham earlier this summer.

If Perugia struggle to keep Amoruso, who scored 11 goals for them during a spell with the club at the turn of the century, then he could well be available for another close season switch.

Everton boss David Moyes has the emerging Wayne Rooney in his first team squad ahead of the new campaign, and the financial constraints at Goodison would make a serious bid for the Italian a difficult proposition.

Yet there could be an opportunity to take advantage of the complex nature of the Italian market by offering Amoruso a regular starting spot in The Premiership.

Amoruso scored for Perugia in a 5-0 friendly win against Arezzo in midweek.
