Arsene Wenger has insisted he will not rush Abou Diaby back into action as the Arsenal midfielder prepares to return to full training.
Diaby has been plagued by injuries throughout his career and his latest knee problem has kept him on the sidelines since last March.
However, after completing the rehabilitation process of his comeback in France, the 27-year-old is now ready to begin working with Wenger's squad once again.
He will begin training next week and Wenger will assess him carefully before making a decision on a possible first-team return, but there are no plans at this point to use him for the remainder of the season.
"Diaby is coming back now," said Wenger ahead of Saturday's clash with Manchester City. "He had a preparation in France, where he had his rehab, and will be back to full training on April 1.
"Let's not forget he has not played for a year. I cannot predict now how much time it will take him to be competitive.
"I cannot plan for him to play a role now in the coming games, but maybe I will have a good surprise when I see him."
