Arteta suffers 'very bad' injury in defeat to Latics

Arsene Wenger admitted Arsenal were not at their best as they lost 2-1 to Wigan but felt the defeat was 'very harsh'. The Latics pulled off a shock 2-1 win after early goals from Franco Di Santo and Jordi Gomez, with Thomas Vermaelen replying for the Gunners. Arsenal now sit five points clear of fifth-placed Newcastle, having played a game more, in the race for UEFA Champions League qualification. The Arsenal boss told Sky Sports 1: "I feel we were a bit unlucky tonight. "Wigan played well, but there was a lot of possession on our side, and we got caught a few times on the counter attack. "I concede we were not at our best, but it was still very harsh to lose the game like that. "They defended well. In the second half we didn't create a lot because we were not patient enough to build our game from the back." Wenger revealed that the injury suffered by midfielder Mikel Arteta early in the match was "very bad", but said he did not know whether the Spaniard would be ruled out for the rest of the season.
