Arsenal manager will not be sanctioned over referee rap

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will not face any action from the Football Association despite his attack on referee Lee Probert. The Gunners boss was left fuming by the performance of the match official in the wake of Monday's 2-1 defeat by Fulham at Craven Cottage. Probert dismissed defender Johan Djourou 12 minutes from time for a second bookable offence, with the Cottagers then coming from behind to win with late goals from Steve Sidwell and Bobby Zamora. Arsenal are now 12 points behind league leaders Manchester City with 18 games of the season remaining, meaning any realistic hopes of challenging for the title look to have disappeared.

Influenced

Wenger was clearly unimpressed by what he had seen on the field and criticised Probert in his post-match interview. "The referee influenced the game in completely the wrong way, in my opinion," Wenger said. However, having reviewed the comments from the experienced Frenchman, the Football Association have elected to not open disciplinary proceedings. An FA spokesman said: "We have looked at the statements made and I can confirm we won't be taking the matter further."
