Gilberto welcomes new chapter with three-year deal

Former Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva is confident of earning further honours after joining Panathinaikos. Gilberto won the Premier League and two FA Cups with the Gunners before deciding to leave the Emirates Stadium and accept a three-year deal in Greece. "Panathinaikos is the new chapter in my career and I believe that it's going to be most successful," the 31-year-old told his new club's official website. "I knew Panathinaikos before coming here but having met the president and the people of the club I have seen their ambition and believed in it. My goals are the goals of the team. "I'm fully aware of Panathinaikos's expectations and I'm confident the club will enter it's second century successfully," added the Brazilian World Cup winner. Gilberto, who made almost 250 appearances for Arsenal, was greeted by almost 2,000 fans at Athens airport when he arrived to complete the deal which is worth around £2million a year according to newspapers in Greece.
