Rivals keeping an eye on Edu

North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham have been watching Chinedu Ogbuke.

North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham are understood to be watching former Portsmouth trialist Chinedu Ogbuke.

The Nigerian striker impressed Harry Redknapp in two trial periods in the second half of last season, but concerns over a work permit scuppered any potential transfer to Fratton Park.

Ogbuke is currently contracted to Norwegian side Lyn and has won a whole host of admirers across the continent with his deadly touch in front of goal.

The striker demonstrated his quality with two strikes in Lyn's victory over Rosenborg on Monday, in a game attended by scouts of the Premiership rivals, and Scottish champions Celtic.

Both Arsenal and Tottenham are known to be in the market for strikers, and The Gunners have been long term admirers of Ogbuke since his impressive displays in the Fifa World Youth Championship in 2005.

However, after the striker recently suffered a dip in form, Lyn coach Henning Berg does expect to receive any new bids imminently.

"He was good today [Monday], back to the level he had last Autumn," Berg told Nettavisen.

"But there is no club who buy a player after one match."

Ogbuke - nicknamed 'Edu' - almost joined Lokomotiv Moscow last January before the deal collapsed at the 11th hour.
