Rennes land Gunners target

Rennes have sealed the capture of Arsenal target Julian Esteban.

Rennes have sealed the capture of Swiss starlet Julian Esteban, who was being chased by Arsenal and Bolton.

The 20-year-old has had a sensational season with Servette and a host of Europe's top clubs were tracking him.

However, Esteban has now decided his short-term future is best served at Rennes rather than making the step up to one of the continent's top clubs straight away.

Rennes manager Pierre Dreossi was delighted with the news that Esteban was on his way to The Stade de la Route-de-Lorient

"He is a young prodigy," Dreossi told Ouest-France.

"But for the moment, except if he progresses quickly, Julian Esteban joins us to prepare the future."

Meanwhile, Dreossi confirmed that Danish starlet Niki Zimling would not be joining them from Esbjerg.

"That is true, we have followed him closely," said Dreossi.

"But finally he has not the right profile."

Rennes, who are under new stewardship after Frederic de Saint-Sernin was installed as chairman by major shareholder Francois Pinault, are also considering other targets for January including Dinamo Zagreb's Luka Modric and Ajax striker Markus Rosenberg.
