Arsene Wenger has reiterated that Arsenal did not act improperly when they signed French starlet Mathieu Flamini.The 20-year-old's summer arrival at Highbury has left his former club Marseille up in arms after he walked out on the Stade Velodrome side.
Marseille insist Flamini should have penned his first professional contract with them and not been entitled to a switch to the Premiership champions.
L'OM's fury has intensified after Flamini appeared in Arsenal's opening two games of the season as a substitute.
The club's chairman Christophe Bouchet has threatened to take the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and had withheld Flamini's registration.
But Wenger is adamant The Gunners did nothing wrong, insisting it was Flamini's decision to quit Marseille for North London.
"His uncle told me his priority was to remain at Marseille so I didn't intervene at all," Wenger told L'Equipe.
"At Arsenal, no-one interfered in the talks between Flamini and l'OM.
"I didn't make any proposition. I just told him: 'If it isn't settled with Marseille, call me'. That is what happened.
"The French rule is different to the international one and, according to this one, Flamini was a free agent."
