SILVINHO OPTION FOR BARCA?

BARCELONA are eyeing Arsenal left back Silvinho, after deciding that Ajax's Christian Chivu is too expensive an option.

The Catalan club are already making tracks in the transfer market in a bid to improve on a disappointing campaign at Camp Nou.

Qualification for the Champions League will ensure Barca remain an attractive prospect for any player, and the club are involved in negotiations to bring the likes of Fabio Rochemback, Sol Campbell and Javi Moreno, amongst others, to Catalunya.

A full back is also on the list of priorities and Chivu was considered to be the top target.

However, the Romanian international only recently signed a new contract in Amsterdam and may prove difficult to prise away from the Dutch outfit.

Alternative targets include Gunners star Silvinho and his fellow Brazilian Caesar, who plays for Sao Caetano.

Arsene Wenger is reluctant to lose any of his key squad members at Highbury, but the emergence of Ashley Cole could make the 27-year-old susceptible to a sizeable bid.
