Brendan Rodgers has confirmed defender Martin Skrtel will not be risked in Liverpool's return to the Champions League against Bulgarian side Ludogorets.

Skrtel was injured against Manchester City late last month and has missed the Premier League games against Tottenham and Aston Villa.

He returned to training on Sunday but Rodgers says he will not be involved against the Bulgarian champions in the Reds' first game in Group B at Anfield on Tuesday night.

UEFA Champions League Highlights

The Slovakia international should be available for their next league clash, which comes against West Ham at Upton Park on Saturday.

"Martin has worked very hard. He joined the group yesterday, so he is working well," Rodgers said.

"It's probably too early for this game but after a good week's training he should be ready for West Ham.

"Apart from that, we're pretty much the same in terms of injuries."
