Reds make Doni appeal

Liverpool have appealed against Alexander Doni's red card during Tuesday's win over Blackburn at Ewood Park.

Liverpool have appealed against Alexander Doni's red card during Tuesday's win over Blackburn at Ewood Park. The Brazilian was given his marching orders for felling Junior Hoilett and with first choice Pepe Reina already serving a ban, the Reds opted to protest, with the hearing set for Thursday. Referee Anthony Taylor awarded a penalty for the challenge, and the first action for third-choice stopper Brad Jones was to save Aiyegbeni Yakubu's spot-kick. A mistake from the Australian third-choice led to another penalty later in the game but should Doni's appeal fail, Jones will almost certainly be the man between the sticks for Saturday's FA Cup semi-final against Everton. Liverpool are thought to have appealed on the grounds of wrongful dismissal and that the hearing will be heard later on Thursday.
