Internazionale president Massimo Moratti believes his side deserve to be in this season's Champions League final.

But Inter president is wary of Liverpool threat

Internazionale president Massimo Moratti believes his side deserves to be in this season's UEFA Champions League final, but is wary of the threat of Liverpool. The Serie A leaders travel to Anfield on Tuesday for the first leg of their Champions League last 16 clash and are tipped to defeat Liverpool, who are struggling domestically. Moratti is adamant that Inter - who often under achieve in the Champions League and have never reached a final - deserve to reach this season's climax in Moscow on 21st May following their impressive form in Italy in recent seasons. But Moratti admits his side must be wary of Liverpool, who have reached two Champions League finals in the past three years, and recognises the Reds will have extra motivation after crashing out of the FA Cup to Barnsley.

Classic Liverpool

"Liverpool are surely a classic team," Moratti told Gazzetta dello Sport. "I don't know if the loss they suffered in their national cup is a favourable thing for us or if it will increase the difficulties because it stimulates a reaction. "When Liverpool are in difficult situations they are able to show their best. "On paper Inter look strong for the final. But then the mentality with which you enter the ground counts."
Mistakes
Meanwhile, Inter striker Julio Cruz insists he and his team-mates have learned from the mistakes made in past European campaigns. "We have learned from those eliminations," said Cruz. "We understand that we have to play to win and do things right, this is the only way to progress to the next round. "The Champions League is a strange competition. There are teams that are considered favourites and then, for example, a team like Liverpool reaches the final twice in three years. "There must be a reason why Liverpool do better in Europe than in their domestic tournament."
