Black Cats want two more

Mick McCarthy has revealed he is looking to bring in two more players.

Sunderland boss Mick McCarthy has revealed he is looking to bring in two more players before the start of the season.

McCarthy has been busy in the transfer market this summer bolstering his squad and he wants at least two more signings before the new season kicks off.

The Black Cats chief admitted he is working on a number of transfers as he prepares for life back in The Premiership.

"We are actively working on bringing in new players," said McCarthy.

"I'm hopeful that we'll get in one or two new players before the season starts.

"That's what I want.

"But sometimes you just can't tell."

Two players being linked with moves to Sunderland are Liverpool's John Welsh and Southampton's Danny Higginbotham.

McCarthy has held a long-term interest in Welsh and tried to sign him on loan only for injury to scupper the move.

Higginbotham's future at Southampton looks uncertain following their relegation from The Premiership and he would be keen on a move to stay in the top-flight.
