Sacchi denies Raul approach

Arrigo Sacchi has told skysports.com. that Liverpool have not moved for Raul.

Real Madrid director of football Arrigo Sacchi has told skysports.com that Liverpool have not made a move for Raul.

Speculation at the weekend had suggested Liverpool have approached Real with regards to their talismanic captain.

Despite capturing the UEFA Champions League in his debut campaign in English football, Rafa Benitez is already looking at reinforcing his ranks.

With the future of Milan Baros shrouded in uncertainty, a striker remains a top priority - with Benitez reportedly considering rekindling the relationship shared by Fernando Morientes and Raul in Spain.

However, Raul - despite having not produced his best form this season and having been usurped by Michael Owen in the striking pecking order - remains a firm favourite with the Madrid faithful.

The sale of the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu's favourite son would be a risky move and Sacchi insists that whilst the player remains under contract he will remain in the capital.

''Raul has a contract at Real Madrid and we have not received a proposition from them,'' Sacchi told skysports.com.

Fuelling rumours of Raul's departure from his home-town club are suggestions that Real have reignited their pursuit of Internazionale's Adriano.

The prolific Brazilian has been strongly linked with a switch to The Premiership and Chelsea but reports from Italy have suggested a choice from Luis Figo, Walter Samuel, Guti, Michael Owen and Santiago Solari have been offered in part-exchange.

Inter coach Roberto Mancini is a firm admirer of Samuel and it would appear that if the two clubs are to concur on a deal then the Argentine hard man will be involved.
