Bouchet awaits Premiership exodus

MARSEILLE chairman Christophe Bouchet believes that next season will see a number of high profile former Championnat stars returning to France from The Premiership - and earmarks Liverpool's El Hadji Diouf as a prime candidate.

Bouchet thinks that the sheer size of Premiership squads is likely to necessitate a number of long term loan signings next season, with French clubs poised to benefit.

The Marseille man thinks that players like Diouf will be shoved down the pecking order at their clubs and be shifted out to other countries, in the manner of Bernard Diomede, who Liverpool loaned to Ajaccio this winter.

"Effectively the clubs are overloaded," said Bouchet. "They have far too many idle players.

"The case of Diomede is an interesting one.

"It is feasible that next season will see the return of a mass of players from England to France on year-long loan deals.

"Take for example the case of Diouf at Liverpool.

"If he finds himself fifth or sixth in the ranks of strikers next year, a move to another European club cannot be discounted."
