REDS REJECT TRAORE APPROACH

BLACKBURN ROVERS manager Graeme Souness has had an approach for French defender Djimi Traore turned down by Liverpool.

The 20-year-old (pictured) was signed from French outfit Laval, back in February 1999 by Gerard Houllier, beating competition from AC Milan, Lazio and PSG for the youngster`s signature.

The French Under-21 international, who has made two first team appearances for the Anfield outfit so far, is seen as an excellent prospect for the future by Houllier who insists the youngster is going nowhere.

Meanwhile, Coventry City boss Gordon Strachan could be ready to make a move for The Reds` £2.5 million-rated midfielder David Thompson.

The 22-year-old made 18 starts for Liverpool last season, scoring three goals in the Premiership, however could have his opportunites in midfield hindered by new signings Gary McAllister, Bernard Diomede and Nicky Barmby.
