Arsenal Ladies kept up the pressure on league-leaders Chelsea with a 4-1 thrashing of Sunderland.

In the first ever league meeting between these two sides, Spanish striker Natalia Pablos scored twice while Carla Humphrey and Dan Carter bagged the others in a one-sided affair at Boreham Wood.

Pablos’ opener was a curling effort from an acute angle before she doubled her side's lead from the penalty spot after Abby Holmes’ was sent off for hacking down Kelly Smith in the box.

Beth Mead scored for newly-promoted Sunderland to make it 2-1 but Humphrey tapped in from close range in the second half, before Carter fired home from distance to wrap up the points late on.

The Gunners stay second, though, after Chelsea claimed their fourth victory in four Women's Super League games, winning 1-0 away at Birmingham to maintain a 100 per cent start to the campaign.

Katie Chapman’s first-half strike ensured Birmingham’s wait for a first league win goes on.

Nigerian star Asisat Oshoala scored one and set up the other as Liverpool bounced back to winning ways by beating FA Cup semi-finalists Manchester City 2-1.

African Player of the Year Oshoala bundled in the opening goal on 11 minutes when City 'keeper Alex Brooks failed to claim Fara Williams’ corner.

On-loan Everton striker Nikita Parris levelled on 54 minutes though, rising above the Liverpool defence to meet Isobel Christiansen’s free-kick and plant a header into the bottom corner.

But City were only level for four minutes as Oshoala’s cross was met by Line Smorsgard, whose header wrong-footed Brooks to find the back of the net for the winner.

In WSL2, Everton returned to winning ways following three successive draws via goals from Lucy Whipp, who was superb, Simone Magill and Millie Turner.

Elsewhere, Annie Heatherson scored twice for Yeovil Town as they made it three consecutive victories with a 4-0 drubbing of London Bees.

Corinne Yorston converted the Lady Glovers’ opener from the penalty spot early on but was denied by Bees 'keeper Imogen Riches with a second penalty before half-time.

Heatherson made it 2-0 after the hour and added her second before Alys Hinchcliffe’s late strike confirmed a pounding for the struggling London side.

At The Den, Millwall and Durham shared a point each following an uneventful 0-0 draw.
