Bundesliga club keen to extend striker's contract

Schalke general manager Horst Heldt has played down speculation linking reported Chelsea and Manchester United target Klaas-Jan Huntelaar with a move away from the club. Dutch striker Huntelaar, top scorer in the Bundesliga last season with 29 goals, is thought to be on the radars of the Premier League duo. UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea reportedly view the 28-year-old as an ideal replacement for Didier Drogba, who recently departed for Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua. But Heldt says Schalke are keen to extend Huntelaar's current contract, which runs until next June, and claims the frontman, who joined from AC Milan in 2010, is also eager to stay. "Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is still under contract with our club," Heldt told Reviersport newspaper. "He is pretty much aware that we are very keen to prolong his contract and as far as I know he is also keen to do so."
