Chinese club eager to unite Anelka with Ivory Coast ace

Shanghai Shenhua have confirmed they want to bring Chelsea striker Didier Drogba to the ambitious Chinese club. The club signalled their ambition by agreeing a two-year deal with Nicolas Anelka, which starts in the New Year, and they want to unite the Frenchman with his Stamford Bridge team-mate. The Ivory Coast international's future remains uncertain as his current contract is due to expire in the summer and he has already rebuffed the club's offer of a one-year extension. Drogba has been in excellent form under Andre Villas-Boas with four goals in his last four outings, including a double in last week's 3-0 UEFA Champions League win over Valencia.

Excellent

Shenhua are aware of Drogba's talents and director Zhou Jun claims they have already held initial talks with the 33-year-old hit-man. "Drogba is an excellent player. We got in touch with him two weeks ago," commented Zhou. "From our club's perspective, we have this to say - if he is willing to come, we will definitely welcome him."
