Chelsea youngster set to fill in for injured Phillips
Crewe Alexandra are hoping to conclude a deal to bring in Chelsea goalkeeper Rhys Taylor on loan to cover for Steve Phillips.
Former Bristol Rovers keeper Phillips is due to sign a permanent deal at Crewe after last season's loan spell, but is likely to miss the first month of the new campaign due to a shoulder injury.
Manager Dario Gradi has lined up a temporary solution in the guise of the highly-rated Taylor, who had a stint on loan at Queens Park Rangers last season.
Ex-Crewe boss Steve Holland is now Chelsea's reserve-team manager and has recommended Taylor for a move to Gresty Road.
"I think he's just signed a new contract at Chelsea where they have high hopes for him," said Crewe chief Gradi.
"I expect Phillips to sign for us, but I don't expect him to be fit to start the season, so he (Taylor) could start the season in goal."
