Alex down over cup final axe

Alex admits it was 'frustrating' to learn of his Carling Cup omission on the day before the final.

But Chelsea stopper insists there is 'no problem' with Grant

Chelsea defender Alex admits it was 'frustrating' to learn of his Carling Cup omission on the day before the final. Alex had been a regular starter in the Chelsea side during the injury absence of John Terry, but the captain replaced the Brazilian for last week's Wembley showdown with Tottenham Hotspur. There had been much debate before, and since, the 2-1 defeat regarding Avram Grant's team selection for the final against their London rivals. Grant only informed his players of the team in the hours leading up to the match, although Alex insists he has 'no problem' with his manager's decision.

Frustrating

"It was frustrating," the centre-half told Brazilian television. "The boss called me over to talk on Saturday. "He told me that I'd been playing well, but it's the English cup and that Terry is the captain, he has to play. "He asked me if there was any problem and I said, 'No, no problem at all. I'm here to do my job'." Since moving to Stamford Bridge from PSV Eindhoven last summer, Alex has made 32 appearances for the Blues.
