Keepers recovering from injuries

Chelsea are hopeful goalkeeping duo Petr Cech and Carlo Cudicini will be back 'as soon as possible'. Cech suffered an injury to his side in Sunday's 1-0 win at Blackburn Rovers, while Cudicini has been laid low with a rib injury. Czech keeper Cech will miss Boxing Day's game against Aston Villa and there have been fears he could be sidelined until the New Year. But Chelsea will keep a close eye on his injury and are optimistic that it is not a long-term issue.

Bruising

"Scans have shown bruising around Petr's hip and side," read a statement on the club's official website. "We will continue to monitor the situation over the coming days and hope to have him back playing as soon as possible." The Blues also confirmed the injury to Cudicini, who was unable to take his place on the bench at Ewood Park. The statement added: "Carlo Cudicini also continues to make progress from his rib injury and, again, we hope to have him available as soon as possible." With Cech and Cudicini missing, Portuguese keeper Hilario will start his first game for the club in almost a year against Villa.
