Chelsea to offer Carlo deal

Jose Mourinho has revealed that Chelsea will offer Carlo Cudicini a new deal.

Jose Mourinho has revealed that Chelsea will offer Carlo Cudicini a new deal in order to keep him at Stamford Bridge.

Cudicini is believed by many to be one of the top goalkeepers in English football, but the presence of Goalkeeper of the Year Petr Cech has relegated him to a bit-part role in Chelsea's triumphant season.

Inevitably, Cudicini will attract interest in the summer, but Mourinho is hopeful that a major new deal will convince the Italian to stay.

"We want to give him a new contract," said Mourinho.

"I think that the most important thing to try to keep him is to show him respect and love and trust and I believe we have shown him all of these things throughout the season.

"The goalkeeper is not a position you can change every week so I couldn't play Petr one game, Carlo one game as you do sometimes with a right back or midfield player because it is a very specific position.

"If we can give him a contract that makes him feel we really want him for the future, then we'll have the two best goalkeepers in the country and then I can sleep well.

"His last save to keep out the Patrick Kluivert header is a save that gave us the record (of fewest goals conceded)."
