Almunia blasts Mourinho

Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia has called Jose Mourinho 'arrogant'.

Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia has stoked up the tension ahead of their summit meeting with Chelsea by labelling Jose Mourinho 'arrogant'.

The Portuguese tactician's demeanour has not earned him a favourable reputation since he took over at Stamford Bridge in the summer.

But Mourinho has good cause to be bullish about his charges with The Blues sitting top of The Premiership and safely into the knockout phase of the UEFA Champions League.

Gunners shot-stopper Almunia, though, has taken a dislike to Mourinho's attitude and has spoken out against the Blues boss prior to Sunday's clash at Highbury.

"It is normal that, in the present situation with Chelsea top of standings, Mourinho speaks and speaks about it," Almunia told AS newspaper.

"I do not know him personally but he gives me the impression of being an arrogant uncle and I do not like that.

"Yes, it could be worse for him because if we win on Sunday we will make him swallow his words."

Almunia has dislodged Jens Lehmann for the past three matches but he has failed to convince for The Gunners between the posts.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has yet to decide which keeper will start against The Blues but the Spaniard is hoping he gets the nod.

He added: "I do not know what he will decide.

"What I do know clearly is that I am happy with the opportunity he has given me. Not everybody has the opportunity to play for Arsenal.

"I know that I can play at this level and I want to continue demonstrating that."
