Juan Sebastian Veron has admitted he wants to quit Chelsea and return to Italy - with Internazionale his favoured destination.
The Argentinian midfielder has had a wretched first season at Stamford Bridge, dogged by injury, and his performance as a substitute in the away leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final with Monaco brought widespread criticism.
Although countering by claiming he was not fully fit, the former Manchester United star has since been jeered by some sections of the Blues support, but he maintains that Chelsea are on the right road to success.
Whether he will be part of that future remains to be seen, although he does confess to enjoying life in London.
"There is this possibility (to join Inter)," he told Corriere dello Sport. "We must wait until the end of the season and then see who will be Inter's coach.
"Inter are a great club, even if they have never spoken with me.
"It is my agent who is doing the negotiations. Juventus? I have heard nothing. I have an agent (Fernando) Hidalgo, he is the person who is working on it."
Inter is viewed as a good move for the South American, who has already represented Sampdoria, Parma and Lazio in Italy, and he would like to work again with Roberto Mancini, one of the names in the frame for the job.
"My wish would be to come back to Italy," he enthused. "It's a life choice primarily rather than a professional one.
"But I want to make clear that, at the moment, it is only a hypothesis. Surely, Inter would be a fascinating development, a good idea, a good bet for me.
"I wait for official announcements. As it's being said around me, I could go to Inter. Otherwise, I'll stay at Chelsea. I feel really good in London.
"Mancini? I'd like to work with him again but, in my opinion, my possible transfer to Inter isn't conditioned to the coach's name.
"I have the will to come back to Italy. I'm 29 years old and I'd like to live the last important step of my career in a country that has already given me a lot."
As for his spell at Chelsea, Veron blames injury for his lack of real impact, after a fabulous eye-catching debut against Liverpool.
"I've had many injuries," he complained. "For three months, I had to live with a hernia.
"So I decided to have surgery. Now I've solved my problems and I feel really good. But, unfortunately, the season is ending.
"Chelsea finished second in the Premier League and made the Champions League semi-finals. I think they are good results for a team who haven't got a big tradition. It can be the basis for an ambitious plan.
"If (Roman) Abramovich continues making investments in football, I'm convinced Chelsea could succeed and become one of the most famous clubs in the world."
