United boss praises Wigan manager ahead of latest clash

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has hailed Wigan counterpart Roberto Martinez ahead of the two sides' clash at Old Trafford on Saturday. Martinez oversaw Wigan's first victory over the Red Devils when the Latics won 1-0 at the DW Stadium in April to derail United's title push. Ferguson believes Martinez's teams 'play football all the time' and feels their use of three central defenders is an asset. "They changed to playing three centre-backs last season, which is very useful for them," said Ferguson. "It suits them.

Great credit

"The great thing about Roberto Martinez is that his teams do play football all the time. That is great credit to him. "That is one of the reasons why they have got consistency and continuity in their management. "He turned down opportunities to speak to two or three clubs over the last few years. "He has a good chairman in Dave Whelan and it could be a club on the rise."
