Striker excited ahead of title run-in

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is relishing the title challenge posed by near rivals City and admits it would be 'sweet' if the Red Devils came out on top. The massive investment by Sheikh Mansour into City is starting to bear fruit this season, with Roberto Mancini's men two points clear at the top of the Premier League. Their bitter rivals United are hot on their heels, with their 3-1 defeat of Tottenham last weekend reducing the deficit at the top once again to just two points. That victory at White Hart Lane also effectively ended Spurs' title challenge, meaning it is a two horse race between the two Manchester clubs for the Premier League trophy. Rooney admits the presence of City in the title race makes the run-in extra special and would make a United victory all the more satisfying. "I don't want to speak too soon but, if we can win it and pip City, I'm sure it would be very sweet," Rooney told The Sun.

Excitement

"You can sense the excitement in the city amongst the players and fans. It is great. "These are the times you want to be playing football, to be in a title race like this. "Over the last six weeks, we have got some great results in the league. "But City have done well this season. They have been similar to us in that they have won games when they haven't been at their best. "It is going to be a really tight last 11 games of the season for both teams."
