Nemanja Vidic's agent has indicated that the Manchester United captain could be out for a long spell following his injury against Basel.

Agent reveals concerns following knee injury against Basel

Nemanja Vidic's agent has indicated that he could be out of action for the season after suffering a cruciate ligament injury. Silvano Martina also insisted it is the wrong time to comment on transfer speculation linking the Manchester United captain with a move to Juventus. The Serbian centre-back was stretchered off the field with a knee injury as the Red Devils lost 2-1 to Basel on Wednesday night to bow out of the UEFA Champions League. There has been no confirmation yet about the extent of the problem, with Vidic set to undergo a scan after leaving the stadium on crutches. However, the fear is that Vidic has suffered ligament damage and the 30-year-old's representative, Martina, admits it looks likely that his client will be facing an extended period on the sidelines. And, speaking to the Italian website www.calciomercato.com, Martina delivered the devastating news. "Unfortunately he has suffered a ruptured cruciate ligament," said Martina. In response to a follow-up question asking if the player would be out for several months, the agent said: "Unfortunately so, yes." Martina revealed those concerns as he fended off questions in Italy, where Vidic was connected with a switch to Juve during the summer. The agent does not believe there was ever any chance of Vidic leaving Old Trafford as he is such an integral figure in Sir Alex Ferguson's plans, while his immediate focus will be on getting fit as quickly as possible.

No sense

"The interest of Juventus? It seems to me out of place to talk about it, after the injury to the cruciate ligament yesterday," Martina said. "He'll be out of action for several months, so even if it were true, now it would have no sense to talk about it. "In any case, there never was anything concrete, but the media sometimes don't know what to write. "Interest from other clubs? In the market a club comes forward for a player when they know that something is broken between him and his current side. "Instead, Nemanja is the captain of Manchester United, not just any club."
