Defender back in training after shoulder surgery

Manchester United defender Rafael da Silva could be set to return to first-team action against Sunderland this weekend. The full back is yet to feature in the Premier League this season having had shoulder surgery in August. The Brazilian's return could prove timely, as Chris Smalling will miss the next month with a fractured foot. Sir Alex Ferguson will consider playing the 21-year-old in the reserves against Everton on Thursday. Ferguson said: "Rafael has been training for over a week. It was a big operation on his shoulder and we hope we can maybe fit a game in for him maybe the next reserve game. "He's coming along fine, there has been no setback and he has been training every day."
