Lille sweat on Bodmer blow

Lille star Mathieu Bodmer has sustained an injury ahead of their game with Man Utd.

Lille are sweating on an injury to key midfielder Mathieu Bodmer ahead of their UEFA Champions League tie against Manchester United.

The highly-rated star had to be withdrawn after 60 minutes of Lille's 0-0 draw with Nantes at the weekend and is now rated as doubtful for the last 16 clash with Sir Alex Ferguson's side.

Bodmer has suffered a serious ankle strain and will undergo further medical examinations later in the week to assess the extent of the blow.

If Bodmer is ruled out of the first leg on home turf on 20th February it will be a huge blow for Claude Puel's side who are preparing for their first ever last 16 game in the Champions League.

Bodmer has scored eight times in Ligue 1 this season and his French employers will be desperate to have him fit for the second leg at Old Trafford on 7th March, if not for the first meeting of the European hopefuls.
