Smith staying at United

Alan Smith's agent has stated the Man United striker will not be leaving Old Trafford.

Alan Smith's agent has stated the Manchester United striker will not be leaving Old Trafford on loan.

The former Leeds United ace had been mulling over a loan switch to Cardiff after The Bluebirds were granted permission to speak to Smith.

The news that United were willing to allow the 26-year-old to leave on loan in order to bolster his match sharpness ignited interest from Leeds.

However, Smith's agent Alex Black has stated his client wants to stay with The Red Devils and work on the club's special training programme.

Black has quashed fears Smith rejected a return to Elland Road by stating The Whites were never given the chance to speak to their former fans' favourite.

"He won't be going anywhere," explained Black. "The club has put in place a special training regime for him.

"He wants to stay at Manchester United and he has talked things though with the club and Sir Alex Ferguson.

"There was never even permission granted from United for him to talk to Leeds."
