McClaren hit by withdrawals

Six players have pulled out of England's squad for next week's friendly with Holland.

England have confirmed that six players have officially pulled out of their squad for next week's friendly with Holland.

Three Lions boss Steve McClaren named a huge 28-man party for the trip to Amsterdam.

However, following the weekend's Premiership programme - half a dozen of the original party have withdrawn.

Gary Neville is the most high-profile casualty, but his withdrawal was widely expected after he limped off during Manchester United's win at Blackburn.

Also joining him on the absentee list is Darren Bent, Ledley King, Stewart Downing and Scott Parker.

Wigan keeper Chris Kirkland has been given leave of absence as his wife is due to give birth.

McClaren has decided that he does not need to call up any additional players.
