Gradi's Foster revelations

Dario Gradi has revealed Liverpool were also interested in signing Ben Foster.

Crewe Alexandra manager Dario Gradi has revealed that Liverpool were also interested in signing new Manchester United keeper Ben Foster.

Foster left Stoke City to complete a dream move to Old Trafford this summer and is due to be farmed out on loan for the season.

However, Gradi is not willing to sign the ex-Wrexham loanee on a temporary basis.

"I was interested in Foster but, as we were deciding, we heard Man United and Liverpool were ready to do something about it," Gradi told The Sentinel.

"If Foster was our player, we would have let him and Ben [Williams] fight it out between them, but not if he's on loan.

"United would want him to play and I would if it was one of my players.

"If Ben [Williams] is going to be a top goalkeeper, this is his chance and I'm going to give him that chance to prove himself."
