Sir Alex Ferguson has called off planned talks over John Obi Mikel.
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has abandoned his plans to fly to Norway to try and smooth over the proposed transfer of John Obi Mikel.Ferguson was ready to travel to Oslo to try and resolve the ongoing transfer saga involving the Nigerian starlet - who penned a contract with United last month.
Chelsea thought they had landed Mikel before United and have been left seething at the course of events, although The Red Devils have reiterated that they believe the African ace is their player.
However, Mikel's club Lyn confirmed exclusively to skysports.com that the 18-year-old has gone AWOL.
"We don't know where John is. He has been taken away by agents John Shittu and Jerome Anderson - who told us they were working for Chelsea, although Chelsea have not confirmed that with us," Lyn sporting director Morgan Andersen told skysports.com.
"We have received some information that John may be on his way to join up with a Nigeria training camp in Germany, but we are not sure if this is right.
"Manchester United, we know, have written to Chelsea about this whole saga, but we know there is nothing wrong on our part. Everything done is rock solid and legal.
"We have always got on well with Chelsea. They made us an offer for John, but it was way off the mark and they only wanted to use middle men all the time.
"John wasn't happy with all the agents becoming involved and so we managed to cancel all arrangements before he signed for Manchester United."
It is because Mikel is no longer in Oslo, that Ferguson has decided to stay in England for the time being.
Some reports have stated that Mikel is in London to open talks with Chelsea, although both United and Lyn insist their deal over the young African is watertight.
"We remain confident we have reached agreement with Lyn Oslo and the player," communications director Phil Townsend told United's official website.
"Both of which are signed.
"We believe he has signed for us."
