Robbo wants winger stay

Bryan Robson wants to keep Kieran Richardson at West Brom for another year.

Bryan Robson wants to keep Manchester United winger Kieran Richardson on loan at West Brom for another season.

Richardson moved to The Hawthorns during the January transfer window and is staying with the Premiership strugglers until the end of the campaign.

The 20-year-old has been revelling in the chance to play regular football and has made seven appearances for The Baggies.

West Brom boss Robson has been impressed with the youngster's contribution, with Richardson also having operated in a central midfield role.

Robson was previously coy on the prospect of landing Richardson on a permanent basis from The Red Devils, for whom the player has only been a fringe figure.

But while Richardson is keen to make an impact at Old Trafford upon his return to the club, Robson is eager to retain the player's services for another 12 months.

"I think Kieran has got his own ambitions and he wants to be a Manchester United player," said Robson.

"I was a Manchester United player myself so I know where the kid is coming from when he says that.

"But he is doing a terrific job for us and if I can extend his spell at Albion, with the approval of Sir Alex [Ferguson] and Kieran for next season, then I would jump at the chance.

"He is still a young lad. He is still learning his trade and, if we have good success this season, then if the loan can be extended for another year it would be great, but it is all down to the player and Sir Alex."
